Fees

Consumer Advice Warning

Did you know?

Small differences in both investment performances and fees and costs have a substantial impact on your long-term returns.  For example, total annual fees and costs of 2% of your fund balances rather than 1% could reduce your final return by up to 20% over a 30 year period (for example, reduce it from $100,000 to $80,000).

You should consider whether features such as superior investment performance or the provision of better member services justify higher fees and costs.

You may be able to pay lower contribution fees and management costs where applicable. Ask the fund or your financial adviser.

To find out more:
If you would like to find out more, or see the impact of fees based on your own circumstances, the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) website (
www.fido.asic.gov.au) has a (superannuation investment fee) calculator to help you check out different fee options.

BUSS(Q)’s fees and other costs

BUSS  (Q) does not charge its members contribution fees. Management costs are incurred on BUSS(Q) by its service providers (such as administrators and investment managers) and cannot be negotiated individually by BUSS(Q) members.

This document shows fees and other costs that you may be charged by BUSS(Q). These fees and costs may be deducted from your money, from the returns on your investment or from the fund assets as a whole.

Taxes and insurance costs are not included in this table.   You should read all the information about fees and costs because it is important to understand their impact on your investment.

Example of annual fees and costs

Investment costs

The management fees applicable to each of the Fund’s investment options for the year ending 30 June 2008 are as follows (these fees include GST attributable to investment costs.

Cash

 $78 + 0.157%*

 Cash Plus

 $78 + 0.381%*

 Defensive

 $78 + 0.618%*

 Balanced Growth

 $78 + 0.748%*

 High Growth

 $78 + 0.807%*

These figures may change (increase/decrease) from 1 July, 09.

The 0.157% to 0.807% is deducted from BUSS(Q) before unit prices are declared.  The $78 is an annual fee deducted from your account at a rate of $1.50 per week.

The Trustee has the power to alter, increase or introduce new charges at its discretion. You will be advised of  charges before they are introduced.

BUSS(Q) is unable to negotiate lower fees and management costs as described in the Consumer Advisory Warning.

It’s important to compare fees

When shopping around for a super fund, many people compare investment returns, but it is just as important to compare all the fees and charges of the different funds in which you are interested. This exercise can be difficult, especially when fees are charged in different ways and particularly when they are not clear or explained properly, or are misleading. A difference of a few cents a week can have a substantial impact on your account balance when you eventually retire.

Some funds charge members entry fees, fees for processing contributions and even withdrawal fees based on a percentage of the account balance. So, be discerning and choose carefully.
