Compare MySuper and Premium Choice Super inclusions

There are different levels of cover within each product which are outlined below:

 Basic Unitised Cover

Death and Total & Permanent Disablement (TPD) - BUSSQ provides flexible insurance cover for Manual and Non-manual workers, up to $2 million for both Death (including Terminal Illness) and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover. 

Eligible members who are aged over 21 will receive four units of Death and TPD cover. 

Eligible members who are under 21 years usually receive the Budget Under 21 cover.

Total and Temporary Disablement (TTD) - cover is also provided. Manual workers who have at least four units of TPD cover are also provided with TTD cover. TTD cover is funded through the premiums paid for TPD cover and is not a separate benefit.
 
 Premium Fixed or Unitised Cover

Death and Total & Permanent Disablement (TPD) - Members can apply for up to $5 million in Death cover or up to $3 million in TPD cover.

Income protection - Members can also apply to have income protection cover with a maximum monthly benefit of 85% of their monthly salary (including up to a 10% super contribution) subject to a maximum of $25,000 per month. Members also get to choose the benefit payment period – two years or up to age 65. A maximum 2 year benefit payment period applies to casual employees and contractors.

Eligibility
Members are eligible for Basic cover if they are:

  • A member of BUSSQ
  • Employed by an employer who is making ‘on time’ contributions on their behalf into BUSSQ
  • Aged between 15 and 64 for TPD and 15 and 54 for TTD cover
  • Aged between 15 and 65 for Death only (including Terminal Illness) cover
  • Residing in Australia and are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or otherwise a person for whom your employer is required to make Superannuation Guarantee contributions on your behalf, and
  • Not an ‘excluded’ member. 

An ‘excluded’ member is a member who satisfies one or more of the following:

  • Has declined or elected to discontinue insurance cover under any BUSSQ Group insurance policy
  • Has attained the age of 65 for TPD cover or age 70 for Death cover, or
  • In relation to TPD cover only, a member who has previously received or is at the time eligible to receive a lump sum TPD benefit from BUSSQ or from any source.

Eligibility
Members are eligible to apply for insurance cover if they are:

  • A member of BUSSQ
  • Aged between 15 and 64 for TPD cover (NB. Once you have cover at age 65 it will automatically reduce to age 70),
  • Aged between 15 and 69 for Death cover (including Terminal Illness cover).

There may be a few occupations or pastimes that OnePath will decline to insure. If members are unsure of how these occupation definitions apply they should give BUSSQ a call.

Members are eligible for Income Protection cover if they are:

  • A member of BUSSQ
  • Aged between 16 and 64 years
  • Not engaged in an occupation which excludes you from receiving insurance, and
  • A permanent employee or self employed and working at least 15 hours per week. You must also have worked at least 15 hours per week on a permanent basis for 6 consecutive months prior to applying for Income Protection cover. 
    Or
    A casual employee or contractor and working at least 30 hours per week. You must also provide us satisfactory proof that you have worked an average of at least 30 hours per week over the 24 consecutive months prior to applying for Income Protection cover.
