Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) - BUSSQ

Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD)

Get TPD insurance with BUSSQ to look after yourself and your family.

To receive your insured Total and Permanent Disablement insurance benefit, you must satisfy the definition of Total and Permanent Disability. If a Total and Permanent Disablement benefit is payable to you, you will receive your insured benefit together with your BUSSQ superannuation fund account balance, subject to you satisfying the 'permanent incapacity' condition of release under superannuation law.

On payment of a Total and Permanent Disablement insurance benefit, you may choose to remain in your BUSSQ superannuation fund and continue cover for any residual Death cover. A minimum account balance of $5,000 is required. For more information on Total and Permanent Disablement insurance, please contact us on 1800 MY BUSSQ (1800 692 877).

TPD cover ceases on the earliest of:

  • You elect to cease cover, or
  • A benefit payment is payable or paid, or
  • A death benefit or terminal illness benefit has been paid, or
  • You reach 65 years of age (70 if you are a Premium Choice Member), or
  • If you are not an Australian citizen and no longer permanently reside in Australia, the date you are not eligible to work in Australia (either because you cease to hold a visa or for any other reason), or
  • The date you are on leave for a period longer than the insurer has agreed to provide, or
  • Your account balance is insufficient to pay premiums, or
  • You are no longer a member of BUSSQ, or
  • You are transferred to BUSSQ’s eligible rollover fund, or
  • For non-Australian citizens, 12 months from the date you depart Australia unless OnePath and BUSSQ give prior written approval and subject to the terms of that approval and for as long as premiums continue to be paid, or
  • On the date you commence active duty with the armed forces of any country, or
  • When you no longer have Death cover.

TPD payments are reduced when:

  • TTD benefits relating to the same illness or injury have been paid within the previous 12 months.

Please note:

  • If you have previously received a TPD benefit from BUSSQ or any other fund, you will NOT be provided with TPD cover on joining BUSSQ.
