How to make an insurance claim

We know it can be a tough time when you are making an insurance claim, so we work hard to give you the assistance and support you need to navigate through the claims process.

If you or your dependents need to make a claim, here’s what you need to know.

Before making an insurance claim please check:
You are a member of BUSSQ
Premiums for your insurance cover are being deducted from your superannuation account, and
If you are claiming a disability benefit, that you meet the definition of Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) and Total and Temporary Disablement for Income Protection Insurance. 
If you are claiming an Income Protection benefit, that you can provide satisfactory proof that:
o if you are a permanent employee or self employed, you have worked an average of at least 15 hours per week over the 6 consecutive months prior to the date of disability; or
o if you are a casual employee or contractor, you have worked an average of at least 30 hours per week over the 24 consecutive months prior to the date of disability.
o if you are unable to provide the required proof, your claim will be declined.

Examples of satisfactory proof include:
o invoices or document on company letterhead stating hours worked,
o copy of work contract for periods working as a contractor,
o payslips. 

A PAYG Payment Summary or Income Tax Return is not an acceptable form of proof as it does not mention the hours worked. You will also be required to provide proof of your income over the 12 months prior to the date of disability.
