The BUSSQ Super Balanced Growth (MySuper) investment option did not pass the annual performance test for the 2025-26 financial year.
BUSSQ has taken the result seriously and has already implemented a number of targeted actions to improve investment returns for members in the Balanced Growth option.
We will keep you informed through quarterly email updates and by publishing information on our website as we make further improvements.
We encourage members to speak with us if they need help. If you'd like to discuss your super, you can contact us by phone, email or in person.
Frequently asked questions
What is the annual performance test?
The annual performance test assesses a super product’s investment performance after fees over a period of time, in this case the last 10 years.
Effectively, the test is in two-parts
investment performance relative to a benchmark portfolio based on the investment option’s strategic asset allocation set by BUSSQ; and
- administration fees charged in the last financial year relative to the median fee charged by superannuation funds for
- the same category of investment option.
Products that deliver investment returns after fees more than 0.5% below the combined benchmarks over the last 10 years are classified as underperforming.
The test aims to measure how well BUSSQ has implemented the strategic asset allocation that it has set, by comparing the product’s investment return to a passively invested benchmark (hypothetical product) with the same strategic asset allocation.
The test does not measure the overall level of investment returns and does not directly measure the performance of a product against the products of other super funds.
What does this result mean?
BUSSQ’s Balanced Growth (MySuper) investment option did not meet the required level of investment returns after fees as determined under that test. This means that BUSSQ is required to notify all members invested in this option that the test was not met. A notice will be sent to these members by 24 September 2026. This will explain to these members what their options are.
