Privacy Collection Statement

BUSSQ collects personal information to provide services related to superannuation, including insurance or setting up and administering your superannuation account. This information is collected depending on how you deal with us, and we will manage your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We will only collect and use your information where it is reasonably necessary to do so, or as required by law or a court/tribunal order.

Personal information we collect can include:

  • name, address and other contact details, date of birth, Tax File Number (TFN), occupation, current and former employer and salary/wages information, identification documents, bank account details, details about your spouse, dependants and/or beneficiaries, residency and citizenship status, and your biometric information (voice, movement and image); and
  • in some circumstances, sensitive health and medical information (with your consent), or Family Law information such as agreements or court orders.

Personal information is generally collected directly from you or from your authorised representatives, your employer, other super funds, and identity verification providers. Your information may also be collected from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), solicitors, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia if there is a family law matter, clearing houses, insurers, and medical practitioners.

Typically, we collect your personal information by phone, in person, by email or post, digital applications and forms, and via our website, or via Member Online.

Your personal information is collected and held by us and/or the Fund’s administrator (Australian Administration Services Pty Ltd, being a part of the MUFG Pension & Market Services Holdings Ltd), or for insurance purposes, with the Fund’s insurer (Zurich Australia Limited) which may include sensitive health and medical information.

You are not obligated to provide your personal information. However, if we are unable to collect your personal information, we may not be able to administer your superannuation account, and there could be other consequences, such as you could pay more tax if you do not provide your Tax File Number (TFN). You can deal with us anonymously, but we may only be able to provide general information regarding BUSSQ and superannuation.

The personal information we collect may be used:

  • so we may contact you
  • to verify your identity, or if applicable a personal representative’s identity
  • to administer your superannuation account or income account
  • to transfer your super to another fund
  • where applicable, to collect contributions due
  • with your consent, help you find other superannuation accounts in your name
  • to assess your eligibility for insurance cover
  • to assess an insurance claim
  • to comply with regulatory reporting requirements
  • to manage and resolve a complaint
  • for processing job applications
  • for direct marketing and analytics (you can call us on 1800 692 877 to opt out of any marketing communications).

We may disclose your information to your employer, people you’ve authorised (e.g. financial advisor, family member, lawyer), other superannuation funds (for rollovers), our contracted service providers (e.g. administrator, information technology, auditors, mail house), for identity verification purposes, insurers and medical professionals (with consent), Regulatory bodies, and in the event of your death information may be shared with your spouse, dependants, or legal representative, or as permitted by law.

Your personal information may be stored overseas in the following cases:

• Member Online access: If you interact with the platform, your personal information (name, email, and phone) may be shared with OKTA (based in the USA), and stored in Australia or the USA

• New Zealand Superannuation and pension requests: Information may be shared with recipients in New Zealand.

• Direct Marketing: Your information may be shared with third party overseas social media platforms for marketing purposes. These platforms may operate in countries like Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Singapore, and the USA.

When stored or used overseas, we will take reasonable measures to ensure the recipient of your personal information has adequate protections in place to guard against misuse, loss, or unauthorised access, and complies with Australian laws and standards.
